Race Across America 2019 is about to start: DERWID is supporting Team Rotary RAAMs Polio to raise awareness and money to eradicate Polio from the world.
Team Rotary RAAMs Polio 2019
For the 4th time this year Team Rotary RAAMs Polio will participate to Race Across America, known as one of the toughest events in the world.
In 2018 Team Rotary RAAMs Polio placed first in their race category, finishing the race under 7 days and raising $1,000,000 for their cause.
In less than 3 weeks, the team will be on bike again to cross America in only one week and confirm last year’s successes.
Members of Team Rotary RAAMs Polio 2019 are 3 men and woman, aged 50 to 59 years old, from Austria, Italy and United States. After the results of 2018, Kurt Matzler, Bob McKenzie, Ruth Brandstaetter and Markus Mayr, are highly motivated for this year edition of Race Across America. Their 14 members crew from Austria and USA will accompany and support the 4 racers during this week.
On Sunday, June 15th the 4 athletes will start this tough and amazing race from Oceanside, California. They will ride alternately without interruptions approximately 3,000 miles, crossing 12 States regardless of the weather to reach Annapolis, Maryland, until Sunday, June 22nd.
Goal 2019: Raise $ 1,200,000 to eradicate Polio worldwide
This year the goal is to raise $ 1,200,000 for Rotary’s Polio Plus campaign to eradicate Polio worldwide.
When Rotary International started the campaign in 1985, there were 350,000 cases reported per year in the world. Today there are only two endemic countries remaining with just 33 cases reported in 2018.
If the goal is reached, 2 million children will be vaccinated against Polio. Another further step to get ZERO cases for next years.
Until now Team Rotary RAAMs Polio has raised over $630,000. There is still time to support the team in reaching their goal for 2019 before the race: here you could find all the information about this year’s campaign.
DERWID appreciates and shares the commitment of Team Rotary RAAMs Polio in reaching this hopeful goal.
We are looking forward to following your bike adventure!
